Hi guys, this is Vicky. I'm now in Irvine all by myself and my three cats. You are welcome to come over and see them! They are my COVID-19 quarantine companions and keep me who I am.
I'm the kind of good at thinking and critical reading. I always love to think deeply about specific issues and am good at connecting different things and finding commonalities in them. However, writing is not something I found myself interested in. I'm a quick learner, so it is relatively easy for me to write as long as I have an idea about the topic professor gave me. However, probably because I'm not a native speaker, it is always hard for me to understand what the professor is looking for in writing.
The article I am interested in the most is Kluger's article "Why cats and dogs think differently about you," he explains how cats and dogs are different under both selection pressure and the process of domestication, thus draws a contrast between why cats and dogs act differently with their owners. My sister has a dog, and I have cats, so we constantly debate whether my cat or her dog is more adorable. This article gives me a historical background on both cat and dog's domestication and lets me know that dogs' selection pressure is more compared with that on cats. However, I can't entirely agree that cats cannot be trained. My oldest cat's favorite game is to play throwing the ball with me, and I never taught him that at all. All my cats learned their names a week after they arrived at my home. The other article I love is "Those who know the meaning of friendship." I heard before that dogs have the notion of "friend," and cats don't. However, this article introduces me to a new theory that humans define walking buddies for dogs. As for human friendships, I know that having friends could make me happy and healthier, but I have no idea that friendship could change the glucocorticoid level. I guess I need to spend more time with my friends now. Also, I'm open to making new friends. Feel free to send me messages through Canvas. I'll give you my number!
